For The Beauty Of The Earth

For the Beauty of the Earth

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. John 1:1-3

Sometimes I think children are wiser than adults. They understand life better than many of the rest of us. They see an exotic animal or a beautiful flower or a colorful sunset, and they marvel at what the Lord has created. Sometimes we adults get too busy or jaded to appreciate what is around us and realize that God created it all.

Nathan’s father, Scott, told me about spending an afternoon with his six-year-old granddaughter. They were outside in the backyard, looking at the flowers and letting the breeze blow through their hair—or in his case, what was left of it. It was fall, and there were small piles of raked leaves in the yard, and so the two of them were kicking leaves as they walked around, making memories that would last them forever.

After a while they went into the house to get a drink, then returned outside to sit and survey more of God’s creation. All of a sudden, Scott’s granddaughter shrieked, “Granddaddy, granddaddy, look, look! A butterfly!” Sure enough, flitting around them was a beautiful bluish-white butterfly. They kept staring for what seemed like forever, and then the butterfly floated on the breeze toward a patch of pansies.

As the butterfly disappeared from sight, Granddaddy thought, It’s been years since I’ve seen a butterfly. Then he realized that he had actually seen many of them but had never noticed them as he did that day with his granddaughter by his side. God’s creation had been all around him for years, and it took that moment—that day with his precious granddaughter—for God to get him to stop long enough to notice.

That day not only changed his perspective on life—it changed his life.

Is it time for you to experience that too?

Uncommon Key > God’s creation is all around you, whether in nature or the child who shows you that nature. Stop to notice them, and your life will never be the same.
