Where’s The Light?

He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!

Luke 2:32

A picture of life lived in darkness without the light of Christ was recently illumined for me in the most personal and practical way.

My family was traveling by car on unfamiliar roads in a foreign country, anxiously looking for a rest area. When we finally found one, we made our way to the restrooms. I was thankful that I could figure out which door led into the men’s restroom and which door led into the women’s. When I opened the door, though, the room was pitch black. That is darker than dark!

I felt around for a light switch on the wall inside of the door, then outside. Nothing! I was scared to go into the facility, but I needed to. So I put my right foot in and took a tentative step forward—it was still dark and scary. Then I put my left foot through the door, and all of a sudden, there was light!

The light did not appear until both feet were firmly placed through the door. After I uttered, “Thank You, Lord,” it occurred to me what it must feel like to be walking through life in darkness apart from the light of Christ.

To choose to follow Jesus, even when there are unknowns that frighten us, we must take the step of faith with both feet. We must intentionally leave the darkness behind forever. Only then are we able to reflect God’s glory. There is no other way to gain salvation and security for the future, as well as peace, joy, and hope now.

Darkness or light? We must make the choice to be included in His great grace.

Let’s live in the light of Christ’s light in this dark world—for our own security but also so others can learn to step out in His light of faith too!
