The Mediator

The Mediator

There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy 2:5, KJV

A few years ago a meteor shower was forecast in our area for the wee hours of the morning. Our family—complete with my sweet widowed mother, who was visiting—piled into the truck, drove out to the country, and watched the glorious sight in our sleeping bags, laid out in the bed of the pink truck.

It was quite a sight, but what I will remember most is heading for church the next morning. I usually keep candy in my pocketbook, in a dish in my foyer, or in my pink truck. I’m sure this habit is a result of my sweet dad’s huge influence. He used to tuck candy in his pocket for my siblings and me when he arrived home from work. I carried this habit into our family, and we hardly ever got into my late daddy’s truck that I inherited without having cute candy mints (with verses on them) handy. They were my daughter’s favorite!

Well, as we sleepily drove to church the morning after the meteor shower, I pulled out a mint at my daughter’s request, and she read, “There is one ‘meteor’ between God and men.” What a wonderful opportunity to laugh and share about our only way to God—our Mediator—Jesus Christ.

Jesus being our Mediator is the sweetest Good News we will ever hear! We know God personally through the man Jesus Christ, who makes possible our relationship with the Creator and Ruler of everything. His Spirit in us guides us through life and helps us reflect Jesus’ character to people all around us who need Him to mediate on their behalf too.

Thank God today for the Man—our Mediator, Jesus! Write a note of gratitude to Him today; tell Him what His love means to you and how you value His role as Mediator to connect you with your heavenly Father.
