Sweet Feet

Sweet Feet

How will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”

Romans 10:15

When I was growing up, my sweet southern mama always told me not to call attention to my feet because they were not my best feature! I usually listened to her, but this was one piece of advice I haven’t followed as an adult. You see, I really love shoes! Since I am such a visually creative person, my eye tends to go to the wild, colorful ones. High heels and wedges are my favorites. I have an eclectic selection in my closet to complement my wardrobe. I enjoy variety and lots of color.

Far more important than what my feet look like is who they belong to and where He wants them to go! I’m grateful for this perspective-building truth in Romans 10:15 (above) and am reminded of His purposes for me when I read Jeremiah 17, too. This serious chapter reminds God’s people of their sin and the punishment for worshiping idols instead of God Himself. The idol worship took place on every “high hill” (verse 2), which, when I read it aloud, sounds like “high heels.” I can’t seem to avoid thinking about shoes!

But God stops my mind’s wandering tracks, and I begin to meditate on what He says about our feet. They are beautiful feet when they bring the Good News about His hope and grace and salvation to other people. It does not matter what kind of shoes we have on—high heels or orthopedics, designer or clearance bin—as long as they are on feet that follow the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let’s use our sweet feet to follow Him on His mission! Wear a favorite pair of shoes today and think about the eternal journey you’re walking with God. What steps of faith and surrender do you think He wants you to take?
