Start Making History

You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.

Psalm 139:5

Never have I been so grateful to have a history of walking with Jesus Christ than when I received that unexpected call from Dr. Rabhan the day after my routine mammogram. He told me an abnormality had shown up and that I needed to go right away to pick up my films and schedule an appointment with a surgeon before the end of the week.

The first thoughts racing through my mind were, Lord, You knew it was there all along because You know everything! You know I’m hearing this news right now, and You are with me. You know the future, and You go before me. I can trust You to take care of my precious family and me. I am Yours and You are mine! My second thought was, How long will I live?

What a comfort it was to me to have a personal relationship with the one true God when all the loose ends of cancer were looming—the unknowns of lumpectomy, mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiation, reconstruction, lymphedema, and future uncertainties.

A later thought that ran through my mind was, Lord, there are a lot of other women today getting worse news than I am. Maybe their child has been killed. Maybe their husband just walked out. Maybe they have done something so bad that they fear they will never be forgiven. How in the world are they coping if they do not have a personal relationship with You through Jesus Christ? What fears are they passing on to their children who are so worried about their mother?

I am thankful that I had a personal relationship with Christ, who gave me peace in the midst of my cancer chaos. And I want you to have one, too, for true comfort in any life crisis.

Start making new history with the Lord! If you’re a child of God, know that your eternal destination is secure. Take comfort in His many promises to all of His children through His Word. Reread Psalm 139:15-16 to discover that you have always had a history with Him. Look forward to making history in your personal relationship with Him. Now that’s sweet!
