Splashes Of Glory

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Soon after our family completed the onslaught of my cancer treatments, Mark took us on a gift trip to Hawaii. We had a wonderful time, and before we left the island to return home, he asked me if there was anything I really wanted to do before I left.

“Yes,” I replied. “I want an adventure. I want to swim with the dolphins in the deep blue ocean, their natural habitat in the wild.” I had seen an advertisement for this excursion in the touristy paraphernalia at the airport. Kali thought it was an exciting way to end our celebratory trip. So with a few pink butterflies fluttering in our stomachs, I called and signed us up.

The boat was big enough to hold six people, but our family was the only one that showed up that day. (Mark was with us, too, staying dry and watching us from the boat.) It was like having our own private adventure. The guide stopped the boat near a pod of at least two hundred spinner dolphins, which he admitted was an unusually large number and sighting.

As Kali and I glided in the warm water with face masks and snorkels, we felt as if we were the only two land mammals in the entire ocean. It was like God arranged it for just the two of us! We were having so much fun in Awe Land that we stayed in the ocean three hours. We did not break for lunch and did not care that our sunscreen wore out long before we did.

The experience was worth every second and every inch of sunburn because it gave us a chance to see a fascinating part of God’s beautiful creation up close and personal. We couldn’t help but worship Him alongside His aquatic creatures.

The dolphins declare the glory of God! kept running through my mind. I saw the glory of God through my face mask as He let me experience one of His top ten wonders on my personal worship list!

“The heavens declare the glory of God.” The dolphins do too! If you need a fresh dose of God’s glory, go to a zoo, walk on a nature trail, spend a day at the beach, or simply eat lunch outside. And by all means, look up!
