Separation Deadly!
Separation Deadly!
God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions.
Colossians 1:19-21
My favorite kind of physical therapy is a pedicure! Like most women, I favor certain features that God gave me more than others. Some women love the hair God gave them. I happen to like my toes!
My sweet friend Cynthia gave me a new pair of socks with the toes cut out. They made me grin from ear to ear. Because the socks separate my toes, I can leave the salon in socks and shoes with my painted toes exposed to dry! Not only are the socks necessary to avoid smudging the newly applied polish, but I love the fact that they keep the lotion in to do its work and keep my “new feet” clean for a while!
Separation is beneficial to protect fresh pedicures, but separation from God is a very serious matter. Paul clearly says in Colossians that without Christ, we are totally separated from God. Apart from Christ, we would be God’s enemies. Our evil thoughts and actions, our sin nature as humans, separates us from Him. That separation is deadly.
But even believers can live with divided loyalty. If we allow ungodly habits to draw us from Jesus, we separate ourselves from the full power of the Holy Spirit working in and through us.
In order to sparkle with the true, fresh colors of Christ, we must remain or abide in Christ just like we did when we first gave our hearts to Him.
Let’s remove any barriers that separate us from true fellowship with Jesus Christ. Read John 15, one of my favorite chapters in the Bible.
