Reminders

And now, O LORD, God of Israel, carry out the additional promise you made to your servant David, my father. For you said to him, “If your descendants guard their behavior and faithfully follow my Law as you have done, one of them will always sit on the throne of Israel.” Now, O LORD, God of Israel, fulfill this promise to your servant David.

2 Chronicles 6:16-17

How do you remind yourself of things you don’t want to forget? Maybe you’re a list maker, and you keep a pad of paper close by at all times. Maybe you’ve grown attached to the calendar on your favorite handheld device. Or maybe you’re one of those rare people who keeps all details carefully sorted in your head—if so, I am truly impressed.

This passage serves as a timeless reminder about God’s promises. Solomon, David’s son, had completed his appointed task of building the Temple of the Lord, furnishing it, and placing the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant in the sanctuary. The people offered songs of praise and many sacrifices in thanksgiving to God. The whole nation of Israel was there, and Solomon prayed for all the people. King Solomon praised God for keeping His promise that He made to Solomon’s father, David.

I’m glad that God never needs reminders, but we can reaffirm our own faith by reminding ourselves in front of God of what He promises throughout His Word. Repeating His promises as we pray and worship Him can rally our faith.

God’s promises in Scripture give us courage to live with vibrant faith. Like Solomon, we can boldly “remind God” that we are counting on His continued faithfulness to us. We will see God proven true over and over again!

We need a daily review of God’s faithfulness to us. Choose a couple of your favorite promises and review them with God. Tell Him you believe His promises and you know they’ll be proven true!
