One Dose
One Dose
Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.
1 Peter 3:18
For many years, I took my calcium supplements all at once each day just to get it over with. I recently learned from a nutritionist that our bodies cannot absorb that much calcium in one large dose. After I got over the initial shock of having wasted all those big, white calcium tablets, I followed her instructions and began taking them in smaller quantities at each meal. And now I have it down to two times a day.
I needed the calcium to do its job because my bones have been compromised by chemotherapy. So I have been doing my best to replenish what my body needs. But I have to admit that I was not happy to add another detail to my routine. Ugh! I was afraid that I would forget since it wasn’t something I had been doing regularly over the years. But I listened and changed my regimen.
One good thing comes from this new routine: I have more than one reminder each day to thank Jesus that our salvation is a one-time deal. Let’s absorb 1 Peter 3:18 again, as this Good News always bears repeating! Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but He died for sinners to bring us safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but He was raised to life in the Spirit.
First Peter 3:18 is the gospel in one sentence. Christ makes getting up each morning, no matter what life’s circumstances, a lot easier to swallow than a big, fat calcium tablet! I don’t have to believe and receive Jesus into my heart three times a day over and over again or feel burdened by a strict routine to be accepted by Him. It is a done deal, once for all time. Every minute of every day, His Spirit is working greater eternal health and healing in me than any vitamin or supplement ever could.
Good News! Along with whatever nutritional supplements you may take today, treat yourself to a favorite dessert or activity to celebrate, knowing it will never supplement Jesus’ one-dose victory for us.
