Look What He Did

Come and listen, all you who fear God, and I will tell you what he did for me.

Psalm 66:16

It is difficult for me not to talk about God! I cannot seem to keep Him to myself. Rereading these simple devotions, I feel like I have blurted Him out on these pages.

But I am second-guessing myself right now because they are so personal and I am worried about what people will think. Is my concern because God’s Word is on every page and He is so precious, true, right, good, instructive, and perfect? Or because His reputation is of much greater concern than my own and I’m not sure I can do it justice? Or is it because a few tiny words on paper cannot begin to describe Him adequately?

Telling what He did for me is a like a perpetual run-on sentence: God is grace, love, mercy, strength, love, redemption, ever-present, forgiving, glorious, honorable, perfect, complete, constant, assuring, kind, patient, personal, encouraging, enduring, peaceful, just, righteous, light, consistent, holy, powerful, friendly, true, comforting, caring, good, and on and on—forever and ever and ever and ever! When I think about God’s character, I reaffirm to myself some of the reasons I love to talk about Him.

It is hard not to talk about such a great God, who is personal and who has saved me from sin so that I can wake up every day and face the future with hope and genuine gladness in my heart.

And you know what? Even in my feeble attempt just now to focus on Him, He has revealed the reason for my second-guessing: no words or expressions can touch His magnificence or how He deals with me with such love! I am accepting the fact that there are no words that truly glorify Him enough. But I’m going to spend my life offering Him my worship and praise and thanksgiving anyway! That is what He desires from each of us.

Brainstorm for five minutes and write a list of what God has done for you and how He shows you His love. Let’s tell each other what God does! “Our heart’s desire is to glorify your name” (Isaiah 26:8).
