Living The “seek” Life
Living the “Seek” Life
Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the LORD sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him.
1 Chronicles 28:9
This verse is an excerpt from a serious man-to-man, father-and-son talk. King David is close to death, and these are some of his last words of advice to his son, Solomon. We know David was far from perfect as a husband, father, and king. But he led a seek life and is known as a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22).
As a child, I always loved playing hide-and-seek. But when it comes to God, I wonder sometimes if I’m searching well for Him. I know it’s impossible to hide from Him, but what does it look like to actively seek Him?
Today’s verse in 1 Chronicles reminds me of the greatest commandment: “Love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind” (Matthew 22:37). It’s a great verse to meditate on when we want to learn what it means to seek the Lord. Seeking is assertive, and if you are seeking something, you initiate action, instead of waiting around for things to happen. We can personalize this verse with our own names as our heavenly Father speaks to us through His Word (fill your name in the blanks): “My daughter (my son), __________________, learn to know Me, the God of your ancestors, intimately. Worship and serve Me, _________________, with your whole heart and a willing mind. For I see your heart and know every plan and thought. If you seek Me, __________________, you will find Me.”
Living the seek life includes reading God’s Word to know Him more. We can’t help but fall in love with God the more we know Him because of who He is. He is all-perfect, all-loving, kind, just, merciful, and gracious. As we spend time in His presence, we take on His heart. Like King David, we can be people after God’s heart.
Ask God to grow your love for Him more deeply as you seek Him through His Word. He will give us wisdom when we live the seek life.
