In His Arms
In His Arms
Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms. Our God is a God who saves! The Sovereign LORD rescues us from death.
Psalm 68:19-20
Each day the Lord, the God of all comfort, carries us in His arms. Imagine that. Our Sovereign God—who is the Lord of Heaven’s Armies (Isaiah 48:2) and the Creator of all things—is tender toward His children.
I picture His love every Sunday at church when, right before the closing song, a small curly-haired toddler comes bounding through one of the rear doors into the sanctuary. Bubbling with delight, she runs down the aisle to her sweet mother, who stoops low with wide-open arms to snatch her up! I worship every time I have the privilege of seeing this precious sight—
- because I see Jesus, stooped low to embrace us;
- because He walked on this dirty earth around dirty people, but made us clean when He died on the cross for you and me;
- because Jesus literally rescued us from death.
Not only does Jesus stoop low, but His arms are wide open just like they were when they were stretched out on the cross. You may have heard that body language makes up 90 percent of our communication. Well, Jesus communicates 100 percent of His abounding love with His arms wide open, calling out a welcome: “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). When we run to those holy arms, the God of all the earth scoops us up and carries us through sickness, grief, successes, loss, unemployment, and any other pain. Through it all He carries us!
Each day the Lord carries us in His arms. Make time to curl up for deliberate rest today—even if it is only fifteen minutes. Imagine yourself in the Lord’s arms and revel in His love.
