Holy Housekeeping
Holy Housekeeping
[Jesus Christ] gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
Titus 2:14
Imagine this happening to you: You’ve been traveling all day and finally arrive at your destination. You are so weary that you can’t wait to check in to your room and get a much-needed rest in a cozy bed. And then you open the door to your hotel room. The room hasn’t been cleaned! The beds are unmade, the used towels are lying on the bathroom floor, the wastebaskets are overflowing—you get the picture. You make a beeline to the front desk. There is no way you want to stay another minute in that room.
That is what an unbelieving heart full of sin looks like to God. He is holy and cannot reside in such a mess. But thankfully Jesus Christ came to earth to offer His life for our sins. His gift of salvation cleans up our sin so God can abide in us. His Spirit remains to do the maintenance work of holy housekeeping so that others are drawn to the comfort of His presence in our lives. We still need His regular dusting and polishing to bring His glory and honor to this dying world.
Being clean in Christ gives God something to work with to bring His refreshment and rest to this sin-filled world. We represent the Lord’s beautiful home, and we can offer a taste of heaven on earth to souls who are weary for true rest. How clean are our hearts? Are they ready for God to move in?
Remember today that you are white-glove clean in Christ! Let’s be sure to allow the Holy Spirit to do His ongoing holy housekeeping.
