Generous God-givers
Generous God-Givers
Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!
1 Chronicles 29:14
Although not everything I’ve ever done may be described as logical, this truth about giving is very logical: We can be generous God-givers to a depleted world because nothing really belongs to us. We freely give what God has lavished on us. His giving nature is a primary motivation for us to follow His lead and become givers ourselves.
No human can motivate us to do anything like God can! I’m sure someone has said somewhere that God’s Word is the only self-help book we need. It should be on the top of our book stack, worn from use! His Word motivates me like no other book.
Whether the Lord wants to urge us to give, to clean, to forgive, to go the extra mile, to cook, to call, to write, to exercise, to commit, or to change by the power of His Spirit, God prompts us through His Word. But we need to sensitize our hearts to listen for His direction and then accept His nudge to act on that gentle push He gives us. Every time I have personally held back from giving something, I have regretted it, haven’t you? We need to develop the doer aspect of giving and move beyond merely dreaming of the possibilities.
The fact that everything we have belongs to Him should motivate us to not hold back. If we have a resource, whatever it is—not just money, but time and talents as well—we just need to let it go! When we give to people, we give to God and we point others to Him, the best Gift Giver there is.
Let’s be generous with all God’s gifts. He gave them to us so that we would pass them on to others as a way to share His generous love.
