Falling In Love

Falling in Love

The LORD helps the fallen and lifts those bent beneath their loads.

Psalm 145:14

It hurts to fall. Most of the time, falling hurts on the inside even if it doesn’t really hurt on the outside. I have had my share of falls. I’ve tripped over my tall husband’s basketball player–sized feet, and I have fallen in a hole or two or three. In each instance, my pride feels wounded every bit as much as my bruised muscles or scraped skin.

If I had a choice, I would choose physical pain over emotional pain. I have an extremely high pain threshold, so I’m able to deal with physical pain pretty well. But emotional pain is another story. It can cause excruciating pain that no anti-inflammatory medicine can touch. No matter what the origin of our emotional pain or the level of our pain threshold, our heart needs healing!

You may be hurting from emotional pain today. Maybe you are struggling to put one foot in front of the other. Possibly the circumstances in your life have changed drastically overnight and you feel battered to the point that you can’t even seem to stand on your own.

I’m so thankful that there is one type of fall that feels wonderful! Falling in love can’t be beat, especially when it comes to falling in love with the Lord. I have definitely fallen in love with Him through His Word. If my heart is heavy and I feel bent beneath my load, I run to the Lord in the Psalms. There I am reminded of His strong help and kind care.

Jesus lifts up all those who are burdened with heartache. As we look to the Lord in hope, we can trust that the Great Physician’s timing is always best. When we fall down—and we all do—the Lord Almighty is upholding us and will lift us up in His way and time.

Read all of Psalm 145. Then spend time falling in love again with the Lord. Praise Him for all His “awe-inspiring deeds” (verse 6) of love that have already taken place in your life as well as those yet to come.
