Can’t Trust Technology

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who search for you.

Psalm 9:10

Oh my, the time I have wasted double-checking technology. I can’t be the only person in the world who checks the “Sent” file to see if an important e-mail went through or who scrolls through the list of text messages to see if the text really did go where it was supposed to go. It is mind boggling to think about how typewritten words can travel to distant places in a matter of seconds! How do they do that?

As much as I appreciate technology for quickly and efficiently sending communications, the truth is that if I’m always checking up on it, it means I really don’t trust it completely. Maybe being a little skeptical is a good thing, because technology is not always trustworthy.

Only Jesus Christ is completely trustworthy. Only He is 100 percent reliable all the time! When we pray, which is simply talking to Him, we don’t ever have to wonder if our prayers arrived, if He heard us, or if He will misread the messages of our hearts. His signal is always strong, and He always replies in the way and time He knows is best for us.

I am very thankful that when we confess our sins, He deletes them from memory. The God we trust doesn’t merely put them in the trash file, where He can retrieve them later. He totally erases them, and there are no archived copies!

No matter how impressive human technology appears, it changes constantly and forces us to update and relearn its ways. God, on the other hand, is constant and always cutting edge—He simply cannot be improved on. His Holy Spirit is our personal Instructor and Troubleshooter who never crashes when we bring our issues to Him.

Let’s thank the Lord for all the wonderful ways technology allows us to communicate about Him, and then ask Him to remind us daily to put our wholehearted trust in Him alone.
