The Founders Cup is a kick! Kickball tournament, that is. Founders Cup XIII proved that competition in the World Adult Kickball Association (WAKA) was wackier and tighter than ever. For the first time in WAKA history, the championship match went into extra innings before Panik Attack pulled out a 6–2 victory against the Other Shot Callers. Panik Attack, from Virginia, took an early lead only to see the Other Shot Callers tie things at 2–2 in the fifth inning. When the game went into extra innings, Panik Attack tallied four runs in the sixth to win the title.

Okay, adults playing kickball may seem kind of silly. It’s really more an elementary-school playground game than a serious sport, right? The WAKA competitors would probably agree. One of the teams was named Playground Posse. And that wasn’t the only funny name. Meatballs, WAKAmole!, Your Mom, and the American Gladiators also vied for the championship.

What’s the Score?

Teams from around the United States gathered at Desert Breeze Park in Las Vegas, Nevada, to compete in the Founders Cup. Adults traveled from Florida, New York, Colorado, New Mexico, California, South Carolina, Missouri, Louisiana, and other states to show off their kickball abilities. And while some of the team names and outfits were a bit silly, everybody tried their hardest on the field in the three-day competition.

The book of Ecclesiastes reminds us to do well in whatever activity we’re currently doing. Whether it’s cleaning up our rooms, doing an art project, or playing kickball, we need to make a plan and do our best. When we put out our best effort, we can have more fun and end up with better results.

Is there something you do that seems kind of silly to you? Maybe it’s writing in cursive or practicing passing drills in basketball. Instead of putting out less effort in those activities, do your best and try to do well.
