Do you think the best computer-game players live in the United States? If so, you may want to think again. The World Cyber Games 2010 brought together the best online gamers at the Los Angeles Convention Center. More than 450 players from 58 countries battled it out for supremacy in 10 different games. An additional 400 international media people reported all the action.

The finals saw 32,000 spectators jam into the convention center and tens of millions of people watch online. In the end, South Korea came out on top at the world’s largest computer and video game festival. Players from South Korea won three gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. Competitors from Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Germany took home one gold and one silver. The United States, Australia, Sweden, and Ukraine each claimed one gold medal. Not surprisingly, a German player won FIFA 10, while Alec Castillo of the United States took first in Guitar Hero 5.

What’s the Score?

The World Cyber Games were a huge spectacle. But the event wasn’t all about pressing buttons and moving joysticks. Samsung, a partner in the event, also used it for education. Samsung gave $120,000 worth of monitors to the Los Angeles County Education Foundation. These monitors were used in schools all over the state.

Samsung saw a need and gave to meet it. When King David was building God’s Temple, he saw a need. He gave a lot of money and time to help build the Temple, and he asked his people to do the same. God’s people knew they’d been blessed, so they gave generously. Read a list of their offerings in 1 Chronicles 29:6-8. The Israelites didn’t hold back from God, and we should have that same attitude when we give to God’s work.

On the Ball

Do you receive an allowance or get money for your birthday and Christmas? Do you pass along any of your money to church or other Christian organizations? Don’t forget to give to God’s work. And when you do, try to follow the Israelites’ example by giving freely and wholeheartedly.
