It was party time in the Emerald City. On September 16, 2010, the Seattle Storm won its second WNBA championship with an 87–84 victory over the Atlanta Dream, completing a dream season. With a 7–0 record in three play-off series, the Storm became the first WNBA champion to go undefeated in the postseason since the Los Angeles Sparks went 6–0 in 2002. The Storm’s 35–6 overall mark set a WNBA record for wins.

Seattle won all 21 games it played on its home court, KeyArena, and six-foot-five-inch forward Lauren Jackson won both the season’s and the finals’ Most Valuable Player awards. A day after the championship, rain couldn’t stop the celebration. The team reveled in its championship with a police-escorted parade from the city’s famous landmark, the Space Needle, to KeyArena, where 5,000 people anxiously awaited them and danced to music. When the team arrived, people greeted them with cheers. Storm chief executive officer Karen Bryant yelled, “We did not lose a game in this building!” and fans waved brooms to commemorate the team’s 21–0 record at KeyArena that season. Confetti fell as a highlight video of the title game played on the jumbo screen, and fans took pictures with the championship trophy. Head coach Brian Agler even did a dance at center court with three players.

What’s the Score?

Seattle Storm fans enjoyed a unique championship, but Christians have something far greater than a shiny trophy to celebrate. Followers of Christ can rejoice in the fact that their sins are forgiven and that they will one day spend eternity in heaven in the presence of God.

This is great news! It’s why Christians are called to worship God with music and songs. And while church is a great place to do that, we can worship God anywhere. You can sing in your bedroom, in the car, or even in the shower! It’s never a bad time to celebrate God’s victory over sin. Sing praises to the Lord for the amazing things he has done for us—and for the amazing things he’s going to do!
