At the 2010 World Yo-Yo Contest, Jensen Kimmitt turned the yo-yo into an art form. Jensen made that little circle dance. Actually, it was like he was dancing along with it. While music played, Jensen choreographed about three minutes of phenomenal moves that had his yo-yo zigging and zagging in unimaginable ways. He slung his yo-yo and slid it, tied and untied it. He yo-yoed behind his back and yo-yoed around his neck. He twisted and looped the string into boxes and triangles while the yo-yo spun at the end. Jensen threw his yo-yo around like a rodeo cowboy’s lariat and even jump roped it without missing a beat. His performance brought the house to its feet and earned Jensen the world championship.

The tall, lanky Canadian looked like he was made to yo-yo. He became interested in yo-yo tricks when he was 10 and got hooked when his grandfather took him to see a master perform. He won contests and did street performances. During high school, he quit performing. But Jensen couldn’t stay away long. He picked the yo-yo back up and quickly worked his way into the world ranks. The best part of Jensen’s 2010 routine was how much fun it looked like he was having.

What’s the Score?

What crazy, offbeat thing do you like to do? What’s your quirky skill? Many athletes say they feel like they’re worshiping God when they use the athletic skills he gave them. The truth is . . . they are.

You can worship God by making good use of what he’s given you. There’s a great image in 2 Samuel 6:5 of David and the Israelites dancing, singing, and playing music to God. They played “all kinds of musical instruments,” probably whatever they could get their hands on. They were singing and banging with all their might. God must have loved it because they used what they had. Use whatever gifts you have—even the odd ones—to praise and worship God.

Commit your talents to God, no matter how strange or unusual they are. Thank God for all of your abilities, and tell him you want to use them for his glory.
