Those Who Trust In The Lord

Those who trust in the LORD are as secure as Mount Zion;

they will not be defeated but will endure forever.

Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem,

so the LORD surrounds his people, both now and forever. Psalm 125:1-2

“THOSE WHO TRUST IN THE LORD.” Is that you? Really? Trusting the Lord is the foundation of faith and relationship with Christ, but it can be so very difficult to live consistently in this way —especially when it comes to our children.

Psalm 125 speaks some sense to us as parents when we are tempted to put our trust in anything other than God. It tells us that our lives are as secure as Mount Zion. In other words, our lives are as likely to crumble, as likely to be destroyed, as Mount Zion is likely to come down. Not only do our lives have the stability of Mount Zion; they have the protection of the one who made the mountains. Our protection is his personal project. It is not assigned to lesser beings. Jehovah himself encircles his people. His protection is not occasional or temporary. It is now and for all time.

Of course, the reason Mount Zion —the place where God’s people dwell —cannot be shaken is because of what happened on the hill of Golgotha. On the afternoon when Christ died, “The earth shook, rocks split apart” (Matthew 27:51). Three days later, the earth shook again when the stone was rolled away from his tomb. The only reason the Lord “surrounds his people, both now and forever” is because of that Friday when the Father did not surround his Son.

Trusting God means connecting ourselves and entrusting our children to the one person who will endure forever. We simply can’t provide this kind of security for our children. As much as we love them, we can’t surround them with this kind of impenetrable protection. So we trust in the Lord to be their security and protection.

Lord, I want to do more than just give lip service to trusting you. I want to deeply, consistently, pervasively entrust my life and ________’s life to you.
