The Power Of God At Work

I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes —the Jew first and also the Gentile. This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” Romans 1:16-17

AT SOME POINT, we may feel a bit embarrassed to be the family that is so different from other families. We believe the gospel, and we live differently because of it. It impacts every area of our lives, creating a different set of values than those held by families who have not embraced Christ. But while we might feel some embarrassment, feelings of embarrassment don’t reflect reality. The gospel is the greatest truth ever known and the best news ever given. As we lean into it and depend upon it day after day, we can be sure it will prove true. It will not ultimately lead to shame but will bring us into eternal safety and joy in the presence of a holy and glorious God.

We don’t want the gospel to be one aspect of our home and family that we trot out only on Sundays. Instead, we want it to be at the center of our home, a constant topic of conversation and celebration, the very fabric of the way we process life together. We want to make this gospel clear to our children from their earliest days because it can be grasped at an early age. And as our children grow, we want them to see again and again that their parents are not ashamed of the Good News about Christ. That’s why we do more than talk to our neighbors about church. We unashamedly talk about Christ and the change he has brought to our lives. Out of a desire to pursue holiness, we refuse to be embarrassed by the boundaries we’ve put in place for our family’s entertainment and activity choices. Our confidence in the gospel makes us incredibly happy and unashamed people.

What good news it is that you have made a way for us to be made right with you and have peace with you! This truth, this gospel, has the power to change everything. So we ask that its power go to work in our home. May this good news of a righteousness provided to us in Christ transform our interactions and expectations. Work in us and in ________ through the good news of your grace toward sinners.
