Put On Your New Nature

Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Ephesians 4:23

Lord, I pray that you would not only bring ________ to life spiritually, but that your Spirit would empower ________ to live in a new way, a way that is quite different from peers who are still spiritually dead. They are hopelessly confused. Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life you give because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against you. They have no sense of shame. They live for lustful pleasure and eagerly practice every kind of impurity.

But since ________ has heard about Jesus and has learned the truth that comes from you, we pray that ________ would throw off his old sinful nature and his former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let your Spirit renew ________’s thoughts and attitudes. May ________ put on a new nature, created to be like you —truly righteous and holy.

I pray that ________ would stop telling lies but would tell the truth even when it costs something. I pray that ________ wouldn’t sin by letting anger control him, that he wouldn’t let the sun go down while he is still angry, giving a foothold to the devil.

I pray that ________ would not steal, but would use his hands for good hard work and then give generously to others in need. I pray ________ would not use foul or abusive language, but that everything ________ says would be good and helpful, so that his words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

I pray ________ would not bring sorrow to you by the way he lives.

I pray ________ would get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior, and that instead, ________ would be kind, tenderhearted, and forgiving, just as you have forgiven him.
