A Life Of Integrity

I will sing of your love and justice, LORD.

I will praise you with songs.

I will be careful to live a blameless life —

when will you come to help me?

I will lead a life of integrity

in my own home.

I will refuse to look at

anything vile and vulgar.

I hate all who deal crookedly;

I will have nothing to do with them.

I will reject perverse ideas

and stay away from every evil.

I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors.

I will not endure conceit and pride. Psalm 101:1-5

IN THIS SONG, King David stated his resolve to rule over God’s people with integrity. Of course, David —and the many kings who followed him —fell far short of this ideal . . . except for the true Son of David, Jesus. He was the only King who ever sang this psalm and lived it perfectly.

Psalm 101 sets forth the kind of life of integrity that befits not only a king but also all who live under his rule. Like David, we need the determination to allow the grace of God to work its way through every area of our lives.

Lord, please give ________ a heart filled with praise for you so that he will sing of your love and justice. Be quick to help ________ as he seeks to live a blameless life —one in which no charges can stick because he is quick to confess and repent. Instill in ________ a commitment to lead a life of integrity in his own home. Make ________ the same person in private that he is in public, so that he has nothing to hide, no secret, shameful life. Give ________ a resolve to refuse to look at the vile and vulgar images that are so readily available. Surround him with friends and associates who are committed to integrity in their businesses and relationships. Give ________ an aversion to evil and perversity. Develop in ________ a love for honesty and genuine humility.
