Priceless

You know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but he has now revealed him to you in these last days.

1 Peter 1:18-20

The love of God is unfathomable. He paid for our freedom with the precious blood of the spotless Lamb of God.

How do you decide what something is worth? When you list your possessions for insurance purposes, how do you establish their value? One element is what you paid for them. Another is what someone else would be willing to pay. By either measure, we are precious to the Father.

Among your possessions, are you particularly protective of those with a high value? People have been known to spend almost as much on protecting a valuable possession as the possession itself cost: dust-free environments, special lighting, burglar alarms, maybe even armed guards. All these are evidence of how valued and precious the protected possession is to its owner.

You cost everything the Father had to give. There was no higher price to be paid. Heaven’s most valued asset—the precious blood of Christ—was poured out unstintingly to ransom you from the emptiness of life and to provide for you the abundant life.

God’s love is a promise. He would not pay the ultimate price for you and then be careless about your life. You can be sure that every precaution has been taken. Every protection is in place. You are shielded and sheltered under his hand. Father, show me when I dishonor the precious blood of the Lamb by which I was redeemed. Teach me to live as one bought with heaven’s greatest treasure.

I have seen the marks of the cross upon Him, and by His grace the marks of the cross have been put upon me and I am no longer my own; I am bought with a price, redeemed by His precious blood. Yes, I have seen Him—not in the outward physical sense only, but in the inward sense of a deep spiritual reality. I have had a clear view of Jesus and my life will never be the same again.
