I’m With Him

Jesus said, . . . “You will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

Mark 14:62

Jesus, standing trial in the hours before his crucifixion, boldly proclaimed this promise in response to his interrogators and accusers, and it stands firm until the end of time. He assures us of two certainties regarding his position: he will be seated at the Father’s right hand, the place of power, and he will come back on the clouds of heaven.

Let’s unpack the first part of his promise. His hearers will see him seated at the place of power in the heavenly realms. That promise has already been fulfilled. Paul describes the power of God that works in our lives right now: “This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 1:19-20). Jesus is already seated in this place of power. “He is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come” (Ephesians 1:21). The Father has already “put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church” (Ephesians 1:22).

What does that mean to you and me as we face challenges and opportunities that are too big for us? It means that God “raised us up from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2:6). We are organically connected to Jesus through his Spirit—grafted into the Vine—and we operate from that position. We’re already “with him.”

When fear, anxiety, envy, insecurity, or any of the enemy’s lies try to find an opening into your life, stand up, look it in the eye, point to Jesus, and say, “I’m with him.” Let Jesus take it from there.

Jesus, teach me to rest in your power over anything that could possibly come my way.

How shall we rest in God? By giving ourselves wholly to Him. If you give yourself by halves, you cannot find full rest.
