Glory And Majesty - The One Year Praying the Promises of God

Glory and Majesty

How amazing are the deeds of the LORD! All who delight in him should ponder them. Everything he does reveals his glory and majesty.

Psalm 111:2-3

One Sunday morning I sat with our young children at church. As I joined the congregation in singing, a fountain of thanksgiving flowed through me to our glorious Savior, who had done something amazing in our lives earlier that morning.

Our son, who had suffered with severe asthma since he was four, had begun an asthma attack on Saturday and had worsened steadily through the day. We gave him his usual medicine but felt there a missing puzzle piece, something we didn’t know to help our son.

In our bookshelf, we found a little workbook on what the Bible says about healing and wholeness. By bedtime, we had filled our coffee cups and tucked the two younger kids in bed. With our son on the couch so we could watch over him, we began looking up verses and writing them in the workbook. At three that morning we read a passage from James 5 that said when someone is sick to call the church elders to pray over him and anoint him with oil in Christ’s name. Although we’d never noticed that verse before or seen that kind of prayer practiced in the church we attended, our motivation soared when we read the next verse, “Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well” (James 5:15).

We called two young pastors, who came at daybreak and prayed for our son. They anointed him with oil, as the Bible says to do. Within moments, his bronchial tubes cleared and his breathing returned to normal. He sat up with a rosy color back in his cheeks and his blue eyes shining brightly as God’s glory and presence filled the room and our hearts.

What has God done in your life or loved ones that has revealed his glory? This passage calls us to remember, to ponder those deeds, and to give the Lord praise.

Lord, may we never forget your amazing deeds. Grant us faith and grace to share them with others, and fill us with praise. For Jesus’ sake, amen.

God joyfully employs an infinite variety of means to bring health and well-being to his people. We are glad for God’s friends, the doctors. . . . We also celebrate the growing army of women and men and children who are learning how to bring the healing power of Christ to others for the glory of God and the good of all concerned.
