Committed To Him

The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

2 Chronicles 16:9

I don’t believe the Lord saves us and brings us out of darkness into his marvelous light for us to stay in our comfort zones. Instead, I’ve found that he wants to transform our inner being so we will passionately follow Christ and his purpose for our lives. Following Jesus won’t always be easy; changes can be scary and uncertain, and difficulties and trials may face us on the journey. But we were created for the journey, not just for the destination. We were created for the adventure of doing the work God called us to. We are pilgrims who are to travel light along life’s journey as we seek his will and presence.

That’s precisely why today’s promise in 2 Chronicles 16:9 is a boost of encouragement and hope. If we follow Christ’s call, difficult situations may be daunting. But if we think of life as the great adventure God means it to be, then every difficulty, every obstacle, can be the door to purpose and growth. One way to have this perspective is to show up for service. For when we offer our lives to God, fully committed to him and his purposes, the adventure will accelerate, because God is looking for willing vessels, and he pledges to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

As you give yourself to the Lord with what Oswald Chambers called a reckless abandon, you’ll begin to discover the purpose or mission you were created for in this particular season of your life. You may need some more training or preparation, but your Creator has gifted you and will equip you. Not only that, he will strengthen you to fulfill the very purpose he made you for.

Oh Lord, my God, how I praise you for your precious promises. I stand on your promise to strengthen those who are fully committed to you and commit myself to you for whatever purpose you have for me.

The weaker we feel, the harder we lean on God. And the harder we lean, the stronger we grow.
