Absolutely God

No human wisdom or understanding or plan can stand against the LORD.

Proverbs 21:30

God promises that he will triumph over any scheme that is opposed to his plan in our lives. No one can outmaneuver God. If that were not true, he could not reliably make promises, because the outcome of any given situation would be subject to many factors. He would be able to say only, “If all goes well, then such and such will happen.”

God can make absolute promises and assurances because he is absolutely God. When you face situations that seem to you as if people are calling the shots, and especially if those people do not care about God’s plan, you can be certain that their plans will not override God’s.

When Jesus hung on the cross, it seemed that men with godless motives had determined his fate. Nothing could have looked more like a victory for evil and a defeat for God. Yet it was heaven’s greatest victory and was the event that had been planned for and promised since before the world began.

When Joseph sat forgotten in Egypt’s prison, the victim of false accusations, it seemed that men with godless motives had determined his fate. But it was God’s plan to develop a Joseph who had iron in his soul, who would be the salvation of his people when the famine hit Canaan and drove his family to Egypt.

When Moses languished in the desert for forty years after killing a man in Egypt, it seemed that men with godless motives had determined his fate. But God was humbling him and training Moses to trust him so that Moses could rescue God’s people.

When the apostle Stephen was being stoned for his powerful preaching of the gospel, it seemed that men with godless motives had determined his fate. But it was part of God’s plan for dispersing his people throughout the world, taking with them the message of redemption.

The same God promises that in your life no other plan will succeed against his. No matter what things might seem like right now, God has a plan that is working on your behalf.

Father, I trust your plan, which is higher and deeper than I can perceive. I believe you.

Prayer is the risen Jesus coming in with His resurrection power, given free rein in our lives, and then using His authority to enter any situation and change things.
