Unshakable Faith

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. For our God is a devouring fire. Hebrews 12:28-29

THE LETTER TO THE HEBREWS is all about faith. When it speaks of running the race and inheriting God’s promises, it means by faith. When it speaks of sin, it means unbelief. This letter was written to Jews who were questioning whether their initial faith in Christ was genuine and worth the persecution and problems they were facing because of it. So what was this writer’s message to those who believe? You are receiving an unshakable Kingdom.

Faith is the currency of God’s Kingdom. Whatever is given by grace through faith is therefore everlasting. The fruit of faith does not end; at the very least, it stands as an eternal testimony to the goodness and faithfulness of God. Even more, it likely results in genuine change to the hearts and lives of those affected by it—including yours. When you pray, believe, and receive, something happens in the eternal Kingdom.

Faith bears lasting fruit that cannot be shaken or destroyed. By contrast, whatever is born outside of faith is destined to wither away over time. That means our goals and dreams need to be centered on eternal realities, even if they have temporal implications. Our energy needs to be directed toward things that will last, even if it involves things that don’t. And whatever the costs of our faith right now, the glory later will far outweigh them. Living in an unshakable Kingdom means having faith—and entire lives—that cannot be shaken.

Remember that as you press on toward the goal. Your perseverance matters because eternal fruitfulness is at stake. God never puts that kind of pressure on you, but he does motivate you to continue. Your faith is not just for this week’s problems, next month’s bills, or this lifetime’s effectiveness. It is for an eternal testimony that he is at work in the lives of those who believe. He is calling us ever upward and onward in faith. Keep walking, and refuse to be shaken.

Faith is a living and unshakable confidence, a belief in the grace of God so assured that a man would risk a thousand deaths for its sake.
