The Greatness Of His Power
The Greatness of His Power
I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. Ephesians 1:19
MOST CHRISTIANS HAVE at some point been intimidated by a huge problem or overwhelming situation. Many of us have even developed a remarkable ability to turn hints of potential problems into near certainties through our worries and anxieties. The possible threats grow powerful, and our faith becomes weak.
Jesus told his followers that their faith could move mountains—even a small amount of faith would be enough to move a big God to action. So when Paul prayed for the Ephesian church, he asked God to give them a clear view of his nature and their inheritance in him—his goodness and his promises—and he wanted them to understand the enormity of God’s power for those who believe. He knew that praying fervently without faith is like shopping with huge needs but no money. But those who recognize God’s power in addition to his goodness and promises are relentless in their prayers. Rather than seeing huge mountains and a distant God, they see a huge God and small hills. They look at their problems not as hindrances or obstacles but as platforms for God to showcase his nature and opportunities to demonstrate his work in this world. They become believers in the truest sense of the word.
People who aren’t convinced that God is present, willing, and powerful pray faint prayers that are barely a step up from wishful thinking. People who have encountered the incredible greatness of God’s power don’t need to manufacture faith; they simply believe. Their understanding of his power leads to experience; experience leads to greater faith; greater faith leads to greater understanding and experience. God’s power manifests in the lives and prayers of those who recognize how unfathomably able he actually is.
That’s why this understanding of vision, promise, and power is so essential in the lives of God’s people. We have to know he is good, embrace what he promises, and let ourselves be overwhelmed by his power. His Kingdom overcomes every evil agenda and every unholy fear. And the confident prayers of his people invite his Kingdom into every area of life.
The greater and more persistent your confidence in God, the more abundantly you will receive all that you ask.
