Faith Against The World

Faith Against the World

Hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Ephesians 6:16

YOU’VE PROBABLY REALIZED BY NOW that the fallen world is stacked against your faith. The creativity and power of God are written into creation, and the human heart longs for a connection with him, so the basic upward call is clear to those with eyes to see it. But moving in that direction isn’t easy. Biblical truth is presented in myriad ways with multiple interpretations and emphases and sometimes with distorted motives. It’s real, but it can become muddled, even in your own heart and mind. And as you’ve surely noticed, your faith has no shortage of opponents who would love to see it disappear.

The good news is that you don’t have to counter every argument, explain every mystery, answer every question, undo every attack, or even respond to much of what is said. You don’t have to master the ways of God or figure out how to grow spiritually. You’ll need to embrace his wisdom, power, and love, but you don’t have to try to become omniscient or omnipotent. You simply need to keep responding in faith.

Still, the Christian walk often seems like an uphill climb because of the ways of the world. If you’ve ever wondered why it’s so hard to have faith about certain things, this is it. Faith is powerful in the spiritual war, and it will be resisted every step of the way. It quenches flaming arrows and neutralizes enemy strategies. It is absolutely central to everything in the Kingdom of God.

That means that your prayers, work, relationships, and other areas of life need to be accompanied by faith. Faith brings God’s words and power into any situation. Spiritual enemies of God hate it. You have to learn to thrive on it. By faith, you cling to what God has said, and when you do, his words remain inviolable in your life. Faith quenches lies about God and his promises, contradictions to his plans and purposes, and strategies against his Kingdom. Hold up that shield constantly, and never underestimate its strength. Your prayers, works, words, and life become astonishingly powerful under its protection.

Once we attain to a real faith, all the forces of hell are impotent to annul it.
