Agents of the Kingdom

Indeed, the Sovereign LORD never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets. Amos 3:7

AMOS WAS PROPHESYING TO ISRAEL about its injustices, and his message about God’s willingness to reveal his will to human beings is enlightening. He tells us that God’s preference is to say what he’s going to do before he does it. Perhaps his arrangement with human beings as stewards of this planet necessitates our prayers before he intervenes, or maybe he just wants us to be aware of what’s going on. Either way, he rarely acts unilaterally. He calls us into partnership with him to know, see, pray, tell, and act. He fills our eyes with visions of his will.

If God did that with selected messengers before the outpouring of his Spirit, how much more could he do it in an age of filling all his people with dreams and visions? We are constantly hearing God’s purposes in our hearts, minds, and conversations but usually without recognizing them as such. The question is rarely whether we are hearing God’s voice; it’s whether we are recognizing his voice. He has equipped us to sense his purposes in our lives and our world, and he is calling us to pray those purposes by faith into real-life experience. We are agents of the Kingdom agenda.

If that doesn’t give meaning to your days, nothing will. Your job as an ambassador of God’s Kingdom is to sense his purposes and, by faith, pray them into being. Be ready to speak and act as part of the answer to your own prayers, but your first role is to intercede for human beings while being rooted in the heart of your Father. Envision his will, believe he has revealed it for a reason, and enter into the process of calling it into life on earth. You have been given ears to hear in order to know your God and shape history. Your prayers are divinely sown seeds, appointed vessels for changing this world.

There is hardly ever a complete silence in our soul. God is whispering to us well nigh incessantly.
