Your Strongest Tooth

Bible Blast: Read Mark 2:1-12

Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 2:5

Is it an alligator or a crocodile? Can you tell the difference?

In most cases an alligator has a wider, u-shaped mouth, while a crocodile has a longer, skinnier one. Also, when a crocodile’s mouth is closed, you’re still likely to see all of his teeth sticking out, whereas alligators usually keep most of their biters covered up.

Speaking of teeth, did you know baby crocs have a special tool for getting out of their eggs? It’s called an “egg tooth.” The egg tooth is an extra bit of hard skin located at the front of the croc’s snout. When it’s time to hatch, the baby croc uses that little tooth to break out of the captivity of the eggshell and enter the world. The egg tooth is reabsorbed back into the crocodile’s body just a few months after it’s born. Isn’t it just amazing that God didn’t just leave those little guys in their eggs without a way to get out?

Did you know that you have a sort of “egg tooth” too? It’s your faith!

Before you gave your heart to Jesus, that was sort of like being in a dark place, like an egg. You knew there was something outside of that egg, but you weren’t sure what. The moment you decided to give Jesus a try, you cracked a hole in that shell and began to see everything Jesus had to offer you, a whole wonderful world of his love.

Without that first bit of faith, you never would have given your heart to Jesus. That first “egg tooth” time of believing in Jesus was the first step to the amazing journey you’re on right now of following Jesus and sharing him with others.

Now, on crocodiles the egg tooth gets smaller and smaller until it disappears, but that’s very different from what happens to your faith. As you come out of your shell and grow in your relationship with Christ, your faith will get bigger and bigger and bigger! The farther you go from your “egg,” the more you trust God and the stronger your faith becomes.

Girl Gab: Do you have some friends who are still stuck in the egg? I mean, do you have friends who haven’t made that first step of faith in God? Pray for them right now with your mom. Ask God to show them that they have enough of an “egg tooth” to get out of that dark place of not knowing Jesus.
