The Romans Road: Part 2 of 5

Bible Blast: Read Romans 6:19-23

The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

There was a boy named Drew who had a great passion for money and did everything he could to earn more. One day he created a bill for his mom, charging her for everything he’d done for her recently:

Mom owes Drew . . .

For taking out the garbage . . . $1.00

Feeding the dog . . . $2.00

Setting the table . . . $3.00

Cleaning the litter box . . . $4.00

Total owed . . . $10.00

Drew’s mom was shocked at the paper lying beside her morning coffee. She read it silently and tucked it in her pocket.

At lunch time, Drew found the note he had written and a ten-dollar bill beside his plate of macaroni and cheese. He smiled triumphantly and began thinking about how he would spend his money. As he daydreamed about a new computer game, his mom placed another piece of paper beside his lunch. This is what it said:

Drew owes Mom . . .

For hugging him when he’s scared . . . Nothing

For nursing him through the flu . . . Nothing

For clothes when his wear out . . . Nothing

For hot meals and a warm bed . . . Nothing

Total owed . . . Nothing

Drew got the point. He gave the ten dollars back to his mom with a big hug.

God’s love for us is free. It’s a gift that costs us nothing, as we learned in Romans 6:23. All we have to do is ask for it. Those who receive this free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ will spend eternity with him in heaven.
