The Beatitudes: Tiny Water

Bible Blast: Read Psalm 24:1-4

God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.

Matthew 5:8

Did you know that about 1.1 billion people around the world do not have access to clean water? That’s about 20 percent of the world’s entire population! Many people in developing countries use the same pool of water for bathing, laundry, and drinking. Sometimes they allow their animals to get in that water, too, and we all know what they do in there!

Pure water is a fantastic blessing. The most pure natural groundwater in the world is found in Tiny Township, Ontario, Canada. The only water found to be more pure than Tiny Township’s water is found in the center core of glaciers! In Tiny Township, the rocks that surround the water don’t have tons of metal and junk minerals in them, so the water is pure because it comes out from a clean place.

Our hearts work the same way. If we do something pure, it’s because our hearts are pure. Think of your heart as being like those rocks in Tiny Township. If your heart has junk in it, what comes out of it will be junky too. If it is clean, what comes out of it will be clean.

Having a pure heart means that your motives honor God. You don’t do something nice for someone so that everyone can see how amazing you are. You share a prayer request out of genuine concern, not for gossip’s sake. You’re friends with the new girl because you like her and want to make her feel welcome, not because her parents are rich. You share something with your brother because you love him, not because you want to bribe him later. You clean your room out of respect for your mom, not because you want something. Do you see how motives show the purity of your heart?

The only way to get a pure heart is to put pure things into it. By now you know that one fab way to do that is reading God’s Word. Also notice if what you’re watching on TV will give you a pure heart or a cloudy heart.

If your heart is clean and pure, your life will be too.
