The Armor Of God
The Armor of God
Bible Blast: Read Ephesians 6:10-13
Put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Ephesians 6:13
The cartoon character Popeye was a smallish kind of sailor who was difficult to understand and had a funny, distinctive chuckle. His true love was a tall, lanky lady named Olive Oyl. Just like any other hero, he had an enemy: Bluto. Bluto was much bigger than Popeye, and he had a thing for Olive Oyl. Popeye got into fights with Bluto all the time. Now you would think that little Popeye would lose a battle with big, bombastic Bluto, but Popeye won every time. How? Popeye had a secret weapon: a can of spinach! Whenever Popeye ate spinach, his muscles got huge, and he had tons of energy so he could beat anyone who wanted to fight him, including Bluto.
As you may have read in your Bible Blast today, you’re in a battle against the devil and his plans for your life. He wants you to get discouraged and afraid and to turn away from God. So he fights against you through circumstances, people, entertainment, thoughts, and all sorts of other sly schemes.
But just like Popeye, we have a secret weapon: the full armor of God! (No, it’s not a can of spinach.) The full armor of God may not be something you’re familiar with so we’ll go through each piece mentioned in Ephesians 6 for the next six days. By the end of it, you’ll know that you’re a soldier of the King! Just like Popeye was left standing at the end of every fight, with Bluto lying on the ground wondering what had hit him, your faith can remain strong after every spiritual battle you encounter in life.
As we study the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, and sword of the Spirit, we’ll talk about what the actual piece of armor does, and then apply that to our lives. This is going to be a lot of fun!
Girl Gab: Mom, talk to your daughter about how our enemy the devil shows up in your life. Maybe he makes you feel sad and lonely, or maybe he causes problems in your relationships. Talk about what the battle actually looks like since it’s not fought with bows and arrows!
