Rooftop Kitties
Bible Blast: Read Psalm 91
He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Psalm 91:4
I’ve heard of animals having their babies in peculiar places: shoe closets, sock drawers, laundry baskets. But this story is a first and, I hope, a last.
When Annie was little, her family’s pet cat was pregnant and almost ready to deliver her kitties. Annie was playing upstairs when she looked out the window and saw their cat nursing her newborn kittens out on the roof! She watched with wonder and relief as her mom carefully crawled out and brought the little kitties in to safety.
It’s hard to imagine why a cat would go up on the roof to produce a family! Generally, animals have great instincts about keeping their babies safe. Maybe Annie’s cat wanted to get away from the noise of the house. My guess is she was taking a walk on the roof when the kitties said, “Ready or not! Here we come!”
Unlike Annie’s cat, God knows how to take care of you. He is our perfect protection. Proverbs 18:10 says that God’s name is like a strong tower where we can find safety.
Knowing God protects us doesn’t mean we’ll never have a broken arm or a broken heart. There are times when God definitely steers us out of harm’s way, but there are other times when bad things happen. God’s protection means that no matter what we go through, our hearts can still be full of hope and faith. And even better than that, we are headed to the ultimate protection of eternity with God. So even in death, we have hope because we’ll live forever with him after we leave this earth.
The Bible says we are like sheep and Jesus is our Good Shepherd. It says, “He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart” (Isaiah 40:11, NIV).
Little lamb, don’t be afraid. He’s carrying you close to his heart.
Girl Gab: Mom, can you think of a time when God very clearly protected you or someone you know? Daughter, are you going through something right now where you need to know God is protecting you? Ask him to show you his protection today.
