No Fear - The One Year Mother-Daughter Devo
No Fear
Bible Blast: Read Acts 16:6-8
Coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there. Acts 16:7
Nineteen-year-old Janet was a missionary in the Ukraine. Her experience there was amazing and difficult, all at the same time. The Ukrainian people were beautiful and unforgettable, but it was hard to be away from family. Janet decided to take a break and fly home for a couple of weeks. While she was there, Janet was praying and asking God if she should return to the mission field.
The day came for her return, and Janet still had not felt clear leading from God about what she should do. But she got up, packed her bags, and went to the airport. As she walked around still feeling unsure, she heard her name called out over the loudspeaker: “Janet Harding, please pick up a courtesy phone.” Worried that something was wrong, she went to the nearest phone and picked it up. On the other end was the voice of her mom. “Sweetie, you don’t need to worry. Just take a step onto the plane. If that seems right, then sit down. If that seems right, then fly back to the Ukraine. You don’t need to worry or be afraid because God knows you want to do his will, and he loves you too much to let you go the wrong way.”
With new courage and comfort, Janet got on the plane and flew back to the mission field. There she did great things for God with the Ukrainian people for another year.
Today’s focus verse should help Christians get rid of their fear. It’s encouraging that Paul and Silas tried to go somewhere but the Holy Spirit didn’t let them, so they went somewhere else. To me that says, “If you love God and obey him, you don’t need to be afraid of the next step for your life. He will stop you from going somewhere he doesn’t need you to be.”
God doesn’t want us to go through life full of fear and anxiety about where we’re going or what we’re doing. Walk with confidence, knowing his Spirit guides those who love him.
Girl Gab: Daughter, put a blindfold on your mom. Make sure she can’t see! Now hold her hands and guide her through some of the rooms of the house. See how well you can guide her with your words and actions. Mom, if you feel very trusting, let your daughter guide you up or down the steps! Thank God for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
