My Best Friend

My Best Friend

Bible Blast: Read John 15:9-15

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13

What do you look for in a best friend?

Here’s my list:

• We have things in common, including loving Jesus.

• We can laugh and cry together.

• I know she’s trustworthy.

• She prays for me.

• She gets me.

Even though I have a couple of girlfriends who fulfill every item on that list, I have another very, very best friend. Jesus! Oh, he’s your best friend too? Cool! I think most people want a BFF who they can trust and who is “there” for them. Jesus certainly can be trusted, and he is always there! Since Jesus is God, he’s “omnipresent,” meaning he can be everywhere all the time. He can meet with all of us at the exact same time. That’s why he can be everyone’s very best friend.

Since Jesus himself isn’t standing in front of you, you have to look for him in touchable ways. When your friend writes you an encouraging note, that’s Jesus sending you love! When your mom nurses you back to health when you’re sick, that’s Jesus faithfully caring for you! When a beautiful landscape makes you stop and stare, that’s Jesus blessing your day! Jesus is in creation. He uses many different things to express his friendship and love for you. You just have to learn to recognize what he’s doing and how he’s speaking.

Girl Gab: Make your own BFF list. Thank Jesus for being your friend.
