Meditation Moment: Luke 2

Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.” Luke 2:13-14

Some shepherds were hanging out, making sure their sheep stayed safe through the night when they received a visitor. It wasn’t just any visitor; it was an angel of God. The Bible reports that the shepherds were terrified. But the angel told them not to be afraid because he had brought great news: a baby had been born in Bethlehem. This baby was the Savior that people had been talking about for years and years. The angel told the shepherds they needed to go to Bethlehem and find the baby Jesus, who would be wrapped up in cloth and lying in an animal’s feed bin.

What a night for those shepherds! They had been trained to know what to do if a wolf came to attack their sheep or if someone tried to steal one of their woolly creatures, but they didn’t have any experience in how to respond when thousands of angels appeared to them and praised God!

Before you meditate on this wonderful part of the Christmas story in Scripture, pray and ask God to speak to you. Read over the verses, and then see how God speaks to you about it. He might show you a picture in your head, or share a thought or idea with you. No matter how he speaks, write it down to remember.
