Magnetic Words

Magnetic Words

Bible Blast: Read Proverbs 12:17-22

Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction. Proverbs 18:20

What’s the nicest thing you think anyone has ever said to you? Okay. Now what’s the meanest thing anyone has ever said to you? I wonder if you remember the hurtful comments more quickly than you remember the affirming words.

I can still remember good things and bad things people said to me when I was a little girl as if those conversations happened yesterday. Words have power.

Every day we have a choice: Are we going to use the words we speak to bring life to someone, or are we going to use them to drag a person down? I wish I could say that every word I’ve ever spoken has been good and uplifting and wonderful, but unfortunately, that isn’t true. I have sometimes used my voice to hurt others. I wish I could take all those hurtful words back, but I can’t. That’s the thing with words. We have the ability to remember words for a long, long time because words stick.

The big challenge with our speech is thinking about what we say before it comes flying off our tongues. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you a big red flag when you’re about to release uncool words from your mouth.

Your sticky words have great power, so use that power for good!
