Fresh Fruit: Peace

Bible Blast: Read Philippians 4:6-7

The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, PEACE, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Galatians 5:22-23

Okay, pretend you are at your doctor’s office. You’ve come because you need a cure. You tell him your symptoms: a rash you can’t stop itching, a headache that won’t stop throbbing, and a mind that won’t sleep at night. He thinks and then writes out a prescription:

Medication Name: PEACE

Dosage: Take every second of every day for the rest of your life.

Possible Side Effects: No more worry.

Peace is a cure—a cure for worry. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Real peace comes from God. It’s not something we can completely understand, but peace is there for us always—if we choose to take it. Philippians 4 is our prescription. Think of God as your Great Physician to cure whatever ails you. All you need to do is tell him your symptoms. You might say: “Dear God, today I need help with my math test. Math is really hard for me, and I am worried that I won’t get a good grade. I could also use some help with my friends. We just keep fighting about silly things. These things are causing a lot of worry. Please help me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”

You’ll be surprised at just how much better you will feel if you stop worrying and start praying. As you pray more and more, you’ll find yourself experiencing more and more of God’s peace.

Girl Gab: On separate pieces of paper, each of you write a list of all the things that are worrying you. Then pray about each item on your list for a few moments. When you are done, rip the list into little shreds. Now those things are on God’s list, and you can count on him to take care of them.
