Do You Look For It?

Do You Look for It?

Bible Blast: Read James 1:16-18

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17 (NIV)

My friend Janet went for an early morning walk with her golden retriever, Blue, in a field where they often walk. She spends this time talking to God as if he’s walking right beside her. In the middle of her walk, she said, “Lord, how come I’ve never seen any animals as I walk through this field?” She felt like God answered, “Have you ever asked me?” So she timidly said, “Lord, I would like to see an animal—as long as it wouldn’t hurt me or Blue.”

As she rounded the last corner on her way home, she said, “I guess if God’s going to show me an animal on this walk, now’s my last chance since I’m getting closer to the road. I don’t see anything in front of me, so I’ll turn around and see if there’s anything behind me.” She slowly turned around. Standing just twenty yards away from her was a white-tailed deer and her fawn looking right at her.

She was so amazed that all she could say was, “Yes, Lord. Yes, Lord. Yes, Lord!” over and over again. She had stuffed her camera in her pocket before she left that morning, so she took a couple of pictures of the beautiful doe and her baby. After several minutes, the fawn walked over to its mama, and they bounded off across the field.

Every good thing is from God, just as our focus verse says. That experience with those deer didn’t necessarily change Janet’s life, but she knew it was a gift from God. She asked God for something, and she believed he would answer it. Imagine if she had never turned around! She would have missed the blessing entirely! She had faith that God heard her prayer, and she knew how much God loves to bless his children.

That challenges me to remember all the good things God has brought into my life. Even on totally bad days, I always have many things to be thankful for. God has given me so many good gifts, and he loves it when I take the time to thank him for them!

Girl Gab: When you ask God for something, do you look for his answer? Do you expect him to hear you and help you? Make plans to go for a walk together. Look for all of God’s gifts along the way. Whether you live in the city or the country, you can find blessings from God all over the place. At the end of your walk, talk about the amazing things you saw and what they taught you about God.
