Bible Blast: Read Romans 13:12

Pimples. Some people call them “zits.” Whatever we call them, nobody likes to get them.

Maybe you haven’t yet encountered any of those blemishes when you’ve looked in the mirror. As you get older, sometimes the oil in your skin can clog up your pores. This may create red bumps on the skin. The good news is that they only last a few days.

It’s important to take good care of your skin by keeping it clean, drinking lots of water, and eating healthy foods. These practices can really help win the war on zits, but sometimes, no matter how clean your skin is, a pimple may still pop up. When this happens, lots of women and teenagers use a secret weapon. It’s called “concealer.” A woman purchases concealer in a color that closely matches her own skin tone. She’ll take the concealer and apply it to her pimple and blend it in to the rest of her skin. Usually this works pretty well, and the blemish seems practically invisible.

“Living in the light” means we walk with God and don’t ever hide in the darkness. That means we don’t use some sort of spiritual “concealer” to cover up our sin.

If we cover up the bad stuff, we’re trying to make the world believe we never do anything wrong. First John 1:8 says, “If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth.” When a woman has a pimple on her face and covers it up with concealer, the zit is still there, even if no one can see it. In the same way, covering up our sin doesn’t fool God.

God knows all about our sin, and he wants to do more than cover it up; he wants to take it away. All we have to do is honestly and completely confess our sins to him, and he will forgive us and cleanse us.

He’ll take our sins away, and he won’t even have to use concealer!
