Big Things Come in Small Packages

You may know Thumbelina as Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale about a thumb-sized girl’s adventures. But Thumbelina is also the world’s smallest horse. She was born to two miniature-horse parents. Miniature horses usually grow to weigh about 250 pounds and stand thirty-four inches tall. But Thumbelina was only eight pounds when she was born. Today she only weighs about sixty pounds and is seventeen and a half inches tall! They say that Thumbelina is a dwarf miniature horse; her owners call her a “mini-mini.”

In spite of her tiny size, Thumbelina acts like she’s the biggest horse around. She bosses Clydesdale horses around. She doesn’t seem to realize she’s smaller and physically weaker than every other animal around her.

Thumbelina travels all around the country, visiting children who are disabled or experiencing difficult situations. Those children are inspired by her because she doesn’t give in to the fact that she’s little. She pushes on and does whatever she wants to do.

You don’t have to wait until you’re older to do great things. If God has placed a dream in your heart, why not start taking steps toward it right now? God doesn’t expect you to wait to grow up into an adult so he can use you. He can use absolutely anybody at any age and any size! He delivered an entire nation (Israel) by a boy named David when Goliath the giant was after them!

Don’t use your age as an excuse not to encourage, love, and help others. God will use you for his glory every single day if you make yourself available to him. There are ways you can minister to those around you that your parents could never do.

Like Thumbelina, don’t be afraid because you’re young. You have the power of God in you, and nobody can beat that!
