Big Love!

Bible Blast: Read John 13:31-38

I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. John 13:34

“I love you.”

Je t’aime.”

Te amo.”

Professing your love in any language is a beautiful thing, isn’t it? Let’s face it. We use the word love all the time.

“I totally loved that movie!”

“Fluffy, I love you! You’re the best cat in the world!”

“I love homework!”

Okay. That last one may have been a stretch, but we do say that we love lots of things. Saying “I love you” might be easy, but showing it can be a lot harder.

I can’t find anywhere in Scripture where Jesus says, “Just tell people you love them. That’s enough.” God wants us to put hands and feet to those words!

Today’s Bible Blast is so interesting because Jesus tells the disciples how the world will know they love him. Apparently, people will be so shocked by the extravagant love Christians will demonstrate to one another that they’ll know it must be God that helps the believers love that way!

So now we know we need to love each other and that our love will be a witness to those around us. But how do we love so extravagantly? Do we send lots of candy in heart-shaped boxes? Or write poems to our BFFs? Should we constantly hug everyone?

John 13:34 answers our question. Jesus said, “Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.” How did Jesus love us? He served. Look at Mark 10:45. It says, “Even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

If Jesus came to serve, and he wants us to love others by serving them, what are some ways we can do that? That’s what you’ll be talking about in today’s Girl Gab!

Girl Gab: Okay, girls! Time to brainstorm! Make a list of at least ten things you can do to serve others. Think about your school, church, family, neighbors, and friends. Now put your love into action!
