Bible Bucks, Allowance, And Candies

Bible Bucks, Allowance, and Candies

Bible Blast: Read Hebrews 11:1-6

It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Hebrews 11:6

Have you ever earned a really cool “reward” for doing something good? I remember when my son Rob earned some “Bible Bucks” in Sunday school for memorizing verses. Lexi and Autumn get an allowance for doing their daily chores. Maybe when you were really small, your mom gave you some candy for being quiet during church. Did you know that God loves to reward us, too?

I’ve experienced God’s reward system my whole life. I remember being a teenager and deciding to volunteer for a Christian ministry. All my other friends got jobs and got paid. It didn’t look as if I was going to have a fun summer at all, but I knew God wanted me to serve him by teaching the Bible to little kids. It turned out to be my best summer of high school.

But the best reward I ever received happened just a few years ago. Remember how I wrote about God calling me to Africa for some missions work? He provided an amazing invitation to write lesson plans for schools in Zambia, Africa. It would require me to take my spring break to write the lessons, and our family would need to use our vacation money for the trip. But did God have an amazing reward for me! An African safari filled with more adventure than I ever thought I would experience in my lifetime! I spent four days in one of the world’s largest wildlife preserves, Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Tomorrow I will share another adventure story and the lesson God taught me through it. Today’s lesson is this: God loves to reward us. He doesn’t always reward us, and we can’t expect it. Our motivation for choices we make cannot be what good thing God might do for us. But when he sees us trying our best to glorify him, he often knocks our socks off with good stuff.

Girl Gab: Mom, tell your daughter about a time when you made a decision to seek after God with your whole heart and he rewarded you with something special. Daughter, talk to your mom about something you think God wants you to do to seek him. Pray about it with her.
