Amazing Animals: Neelix the Cat

Bible Blast: Read Job 5:9-11

Nora Schmidt’s cat, Uno, gave birth to four premature kittens. Three of them died in spite of the vet’s help. Uno brought the surviving tiny kitten to Nora and laid it in her lap, as if she was asking Nora to take care of it. Nora named the kitten Neelix and bottle-fed him and took care of him. She even slept with Neelix curled up on her chest to make sure he was okay during the nights. Soon enough, he grew into a big tabby cat with eyes the color of gold. He was very intelligent, so it didn’t surprise Nora when he learned how to open the door to let himself in and out of the house.

One day when Neelix was older, Nora got the flu and was really sick with fever and aches. Nora took her flu medicine and lay back in her recliner to rest. Neelix, although huge at this point, curled up on her chest and fell asleep just like he had always done.

When Nora woke up, she wasn’t in her house anymore. She was in the hospital with a tube coming out of her mouth and an IV in her arm.

The medication Nora took that morning caused a bad reaction with another medication she was taking. The bad combination caused her to go into a semi-coma. That morning, Nora’s neighbor heard a terrible howling sound. When she investigated, she found Neelix on her front porch. She couldn’t get Neelix to stop, so she took him home. There, he ran to where Nora was on the recliner and began meowing wildly at the neighbor. The neighbor felt Nora’s wrist and barely felt a pulse. She called the ambulance and got Nora to the hospital.

Nora knows it’s a miracle that Neelix saved her life.

God can do miracles without human or animal help, but sometimes he uses critters like Neelix to help him perform miracles. The important truth is this: Our God performs countless miracles!
