What are some steps to learning self-control?

God’s Response

Keep me from deliberate sins! Don’t let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. Psalm 19:13

God wants you to be holy, so you should keep clear of all sexual sin. Then each of you will control your body and live in holiness and honor —not in lustful passion. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5

God wants us to exercise self-control over what we think, what we say, and what we do. He wants us to live as children of God, not as mindless followers of the godless ways of culture. We can do this by (1) honestly assessing our weaknesses; (2) determining that they will no longer rule us; (3) appealing to the Holy Spirit to help us stand strong against temptation; (4) humbly confessing to God when we make a mistake; and (5) giving glory to God when we are victorious!

God’s Promise

All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 1 Corinthians 9:25
